What or Who Is It? (UPDATE: Voting Closed, We Have Winners!)
[a contest originally held on MySpace beginning 12/14/2007]
Current mood: curious
Category: Art and Photography

***UPDATE***

I've been trying to avoid giving a clear answer, so we could drag out the contest until Monday... lol. But now that five people have guessed correctly, I guess I can let the cat out of the bag.

We have winners!

The five who guessed correctly are (in order) Susannah Dean, Susanabodanna, LisaTx65, Sidhabhair, and Kelly.  Some answered via private message instead of on the blog - and either way is cool. An honorable mention goes to Elena for recognizing the artist, and to several others who picked up on the father-son concept. And then there were some totally different answers that I thought were pretty cool as well, and I haven't yet decided the winner in that category.

I will now cut off the "voting," since I didn't quite count on having so many winners. And I will announce your prizes in a blog on Monday!

You're still welcome to share your impressions on the piece, however!

Here's the original blog:

I took this photograph on vacation last summer:

This sculpture intrigues me, even though I know what it's supposed to represent.

But one thing I like about certain artworks is that they can be interpreted differently by different people.  So I'd like to know what YOU think this sculpture represents.  Is it symbolic of a certain idea, or a representation of certain historical of mythological figures?  Essentially, I want to know what you think of this.  How does it make you feel?  What is your interpretation?

And let's make it into a contest!

We'll have two winners and two prizes.

One will go to the person who comes closest to guessing what the artist actually meant to represent in this sculpture.  And the second will go to whoever comes up with the best, coolest, most creative, and/or most convincing explanation of what this sculpture means aside from what the artist intended.

Next Monday I will reveal the true meaning and title of the sculpture and (hopefully) the winners.

Prizes will be announced then (or perhaps even before then).

And in the meantime, I may end up giving a hint (or a few hints) in the comments, so keep checking back.
