An apology to my subscribers, I'm honored, and some random news
First of all, I was honored to receive my very first SPAM blog comment tonight, from someone with the unpronounceable name pozwkshw. You mean SPAMMERS are "reading" my blog now?!? Gosh... it kinda makes me feel important. And so I hereby award star number 6 on the Jesus Crisis Walk of Fame to Mr. (or Ms.) pozwkshw:

By the way, you can see who the previous five Jesus Crisis walk of Fame honorees are by clicking here to visit my blog entitled PRIZES.
Which reminds me.... In the next month or so, I plan to create a special page on www.crisischronicles.com for nothing but the Jesus Crisis Walk of Fame. Previous recipients will be featured, along with links to their websites and short descriptions of why they were awarded their stars. I will then add new stars periodically for deserving souls. Attention SPAMMERS - don't think you'll automatically make the cut. Mr. (or Ms.) pozwkshw did so only because he (or she) was first. Maybe if your SPAM is über-creative....
Why do I tend to think of SPAMMERS as exclusively male? It shouldn't be so, I suppose....
Secondly, I'd like to apologize to my new blog subscribers who are getting deluged with automated e-mail. I'm in the process (thankfully almost done) of transferring my old MySpace blogs to this site. Unfortunately, you are receiving an e-mail notification for each one I transfer. The software I use doesn't distinguish between old blogs and new blogs - it only knows that they're ALL new to THIS site. I hope to have all my old blogs transferred by the end of this week, so please be patient. I won't be offended if you don't have time to read and respond to them all - though you're certainly welcome to do so. At least please check out the new ones! (-;
Thirdly, I visited the prison last night for a Horizon Interfaith program reunion. I was lucky to have a chance to see the guy I used to mentor, Jerrod, a matter of days before he was due to be transferred to another institution. After that, I'll probably never see him again. I also received a promising job lead (and offer of recommendation) from one of the influential volunteers at the prison. Lots of good stuff packed into a couple of hours.... But the drive there and back took two and a half hours each way, thanks to severe rains that made it difficult for me to even see the lines on the road through long stretches of Ohio farmland. I was pretty much following taillights much of the way. Thank goodness the people in front of me didn't go off the road! (-;
Fourthly, an inmate recently commited suicide at Grafton Correctional Institution. I've heard rumors that he did so after hearing about Ohio S.B. 10, which would have required him (upon release) to register as a sex offender every three months for the rest of his life. He had been in prison for 14 years already.
Finally, I have recently filed two motions in the Common Pleas court. One is challenging the ex post facto application of Ohio S.B. 10 to me (it will likely be a long process that ends up with the Ohio Supreme Court). My hearing is scheduled for January 24th. The other motion is more limited in scope and seeks an immediate stay of the neighbor notification requirement that began to apply to me when S.B. 10 went into effect on January 1st. According to the law, the Common Pleas judge has discretion to grant the latter motion but not necessarily the former. So we'll see how it plays out.
Thanks to all my friends who've stopped by, checked out the new site, and read my blogs lately. Thanks, too, to the few (including my mom) who've ordered books and videos from "JC's Amazon Bookstore" to help support this site. (We've made five dollars so far!) All of you ROCK (especially Mom), and I'm extremely grateful. (-;
Peace, love and respect,
John, a.k.a. Jesus Crisis

Thank you very much, Chi! I'm grateful.
There was promising news in today's local paper regarding the community notification requirements - Click here to read about it. I've been on the online registry for three and a half years - we're not protesting that. We're just trying to keep them from handing my neighbors flyers, posting them at the stores across the street from my house, et cetera - these new actions were required by S.B 10, since it reclassified me based on "crime of conviction" instead of "likelihood to offend."

wow. this is a great letter from that article:
Comment from Victim’s Mother
January 10, 2008, 2:48 pm
None of these laws would have prevented my husband from abusing my daughter. However, all of them are preventing our family from ever recovering from this. The whole family went through a treatment program that did effectively “cure” my husband because what he did was not because he was sexually attracted to children. There are thousands of families like mine that are being repunished retroactively because the Adam Walsh law is flawed. It based classification on the title and wording law used to charge the offender instead of the risk to commit another crime.

Excellent! I know a woman in town who's in this exact same position. Wonder if she's the author....
I spent several years involved in them in prison, both as a "client" and as a "facilitator." And I have seen such rehabilitation programs be successful in many cases.
And she makes three additional points.... (1) Though these laws are passed in the name of protecting innocents, they often punish the ex-offender's innocent family as much as they do the offender himself. (2) The law is flawed in that it ignores whether or not the ex-offender is high, low, or no risk to commit a crime. (3) Retroactive punishment is unconstitutional... whatever the crime.

i have been researching th adam walsh act online, and the more i delve into it, the more confused i am getting. i found out the other day that this act passed in the house with a voice call vote, today, i just found out it passed in the senate the same way. this law seems like it's so broad in scope, there is so much as stake, not just for you, but for so many people, i can't believe it was passed on voice call only.
as citizens, shouldn't we know how all our elected officials are voting on bills?
i don't feel as if i am finding any answers. the more i research this, the more questions i find myself asking.
i feel like maybe a little trip into d.c. next week to go to the LOC might be in order, where i can put reference staff there to good use.

I know of several guys who are spending significant time in prison over situations like the one you described involving your son. Sadly, it's not only "sex offenders" who often get the shaft from our justice system. One fellow I befriended in prison was given a sentence of fifteen years to LIFE for simply have LSD in his van. Another friend served 12 or 13 years for theft and forgery (that's what happens when you steal from politically influential people).
I very much appreciate you sharing your story and views, FreeLove. Peace and best wishes to you....

I'm looking forward to read some of the back blogs... they aren't easy to access on MySpace because it doesn't generate a history..

Congatulations on your two CCP filings and your work to challenge the constituionality of the laws you speak of. There are many laws from the legislature down to local City Ordinances that are unconstitutional. These laws will remain on the books until someone opens his mouth, and his wallet, to challenge these laws. In New Jersey we have arbitary checkpoints where the police are autorized to pull everyone over and check to see if they were driving while drunk. In this process they also run your informaton throught their system, so even if you are not drunk, but have legal woes, you may be spending the night in jail. A lot of people will read this and say it's more important to stop drunk drivers than it is to worry about the legality of laws. I counter this argument with the fact that the police are free to pull anyone over if they have a shred of probable cause, swerving in the road, broken tail light, etc. This is how they can and do catch the drunks. The point is that the government is not granted the power under the constitution to pull people over who have done nothing wrong and start running an investigation on them. It is a violation of the driver's civil rights. Unfortunately, until someone takes the time and spends the money to challenge the constitutionality of this practice it, like Ohio's ex post facto punishments will continue. There is a good reason that the Constitution does not allow laws to be applied retroactively. People have a right to know the legality of their actions and they also have a right to know the consequences of breaking the law. To go back and apply punishments that were not in place at the time was committed is a violation of the individual's civil rights. It is patently unfair if, say, The Government comes out with new car seat safety standards and then punishes me because the car seat I used before those standards were made mandatory does not comply. How can a person possibly comply with laws that have not been passed? How can we give a person punishments that were not available at the time the crime was committed? This practice is not sensible or just, which is why the Constitution forbids it.

I'm glad you have been posting the latest and getting comments. It is amazing that so many people in this country are considered "sex offenders" and the stories just keep accumulating. I think the Supreme Court is going to have to make some adjustments to the SB10 laws. Keep us informed on this since all your friends want to know the outcome. You have a lot of supporters who realize now what injustice is in this country. When do you have to register? When they find out how many details are involved in the new law I am sure the authorities are going to be highly overworked to keep up. The real
predators and rapists will probably slip through the cracks and they are going to realize this sooner or later.
Good luck on your job prospects. xoxox

Good luck on the job prospect, JC!! I am constantly amazed and amused by what we, as a nation, view as criminal. Our basic morality is invisible. SB10 is no more a law about "sex offenders" than George Bush is about being an honest president. Grrrrr, barbie
