Thanks to Sir Nico III for keeping me (and the rest of us) abreast of the latest developments!
Here's a brief excerpt, followed by a link to the whole article:

[14 January 2008]
ALBANY, New York (AP) — "MySpace has reached an agreement with more than 45 states to change to help prevent sexual predators and others from misusing it, state officials said Monday.
Several states' attorneys general said in a statement that the huge social networking Web site has agreed to add several protections and participate in a working group to develop new technologies, including a way to verify the ages of users. Other social networking sites will be invited to participate.
MySpace, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., will also accept independent monitoring and changes the structure of its site...."

I can't believe it either!
Don't know that I'll do much there... it's mainly just another way for people to find me after MySpace cans me. However, the last time MySpace did a mass-deletion of registered sex offenders, so did Facebook. That's one reason I've never bothered with it till now. Seems strange that I would bother with it now, I guess....

Well I guess some of the measures are needed to protect kids. But have they really thought thru what their doing and whether the measures they're taking will really help? It seems to just make things more difficult for regular folk and people just using the internet. But real child predators know how to circumvent the system. It just makes it impossible for someone like you who isn't doing anything except blogging and e-mailing... but has a past record... even if wrongfully convicted.
I think more thought needs to be put into a better solution... my own 2 pence.
