Court Date, Toothache, and a Yelping Dog to Keep Me Awake
I've had a killer toothache for about a week now. Apparently one of my fillings has come out, though I'm not sure where it went. I guess I could have swallowed it. But it seems I would remember having something hard hit the back of my throat.... (Ooh... that sounds naughty.)

Anyway, it feels a little better last night and today - largely because I've mastered the art of drinking my coffee less than hot, my water less than cold, and keeping my eating to a minimum (and to the right side). The gum is still swollen, though, so I'm thinking I have an abcess. Arrggh.... So I have an appointment with my dentist today, and I anticipate having to make the painful choice between having a permanent gap or having an expensive root canal and crown. Fortunately, my wife has good insurance. But the last time I had an abcess cost me more than the thousand dollars our insurance covered. Maybe I can get the tooth fairy to cover the difference.

My tooth isn't the only thing to keep me awake at night lately. Our dear dog Lady is in heat. While she's fairly good and quiet about it, her male counterpart Lucky, who I affectionately refer to as Mr. Strike, is very vocal about his "needs." We're keeping them apart, one dog upstairs and one down, but that doesn't keep the usually very well behaved Mr. Strike from whining and yelping and banging the door with his shoulder in an attempt to get to his beloved - all night long. I feel sorry for him. But he's driving me CRAZY! I already had a headache from my tooth! And we've already had to find good homes for 14 puppies in the past year. Enough's enough! (-;

A third thing that's keeping me awake at night is my pending court date. We had a hearing scheduled in Judge Rothgery's courtroom tomorrow morning to contest the new sex offender classification and ask for an exemption from the new and (in my case) unnecessary neighbor notification requirements. As I've mentioned in previous blogs, our local judges have publicly expressed displeasure with the new law, one of them even going so far as to say he believed aspects of it to be unconstitutional. So I had reason for optimism. But then my attorney notified me that my hearing has been postponed until 30 January and reassigned to a "visiting judge." Whether this is good or bad news is up in the air. A visiting judge doesn't have to worry about being re-elected in our county - so perhaps he can more easily make a fair decision without fear of any potential political fallout. It seems that ALL of the cases protesting Ohio Senate Bill 10 in our county have suddenly been reassigned to that visiting judge. And there was no mention of this development in today's local paper. Hmm....
So I'll have to keep you posted. Hopefully I'll get lucky - and Lucky won't.
I'm off to see the Dentist, the wonderful wizard of Ahs....

1. Vicoden for the tooth, Be sure to wash it down with Jose Cuervo, after about 15 minutes you can chew a bag of nails and not feel a thing!
2. A shovel, not for you but for the dog. When Lucky decides to get vocal, you do your best Tiger Wood swing, Imagine your trying to get the ball onto the green of that difficult dog-leg par 5 at the country club. I'm betting after a swing or two Lucky will learn to shut up and curb his hormones.
3. As far as the court date, you will probably have a little better luck with a visiting judge, anyways I am wishing you all the best in your legal battle!

Thanks for the advice, the laugh and the good wishes. One thing I know... beer does not work... especially if it's cold. I might still have a bottle of Jack Daniels in the hutch. (-;

No comment. I just hope everything turns out with the tooth fairy, and the vet who should have gotten Lady fixed a year ago.

Maybe the tooth fairy will cover the cost of the vet as well... lol. I hope I won't have to pull out one of Lady's teeth. (-;

LOL... You can swallow a filling and not know it... I've done it twice so far... and other people I know have had it happen too. Hope you feel better in the regard.
With the dogs... LOL.. your dog Lucky isn't being very "lucky" is he... poor thing... it sounds like torture... to be sequestered... But unless you want more puppies... Ah...me...
And the court date... visiting judge.... yikes.. I'd be worried about that. Bu maybe your lawyer might know something about the judge. I don't know how a visiting judge could rule on something he/she might not be familiar with... it may just mean further delays... but at least there is something scheduled. Anyway good luck... hope things go in your favor...
Keep us up to date on things...Chris

Thanks, Chris. I will definitely keep you up to date. I'm a little worried, but still optimistic. Going to court for anything scares me ... lol... but at least in this case the worst that can happen is that nothing happens. It's not like I can go to jail or anything if the system fails this time. So there is a silver lining. (-;

having a gap might make it more difficult to eat - depends on where it is. and bone loss occurs when teeth are extracted. Having an implant helps minimize bone loss.
Have you thought about going to Mexico and getting this done? Lots of people come here for dental tourism. Who knows, maybe you could save enough money to cover the airfare & more.

I had to get one tooth extracted in prison, and it took a year for me to get used to eating on that side again. So when I got the abcess on the other side of my mouth a couple of years after my release, I went through the process of having a root canal and getting a crown/cap. Both of those were near the back. the current tooth is closer to the front and a gap will be visible when I smile (I do possess some vanity... lol) - it's also on the other side of my mouth from my prison gap - which will mean a gap on both sides - definitely not desirable. So I guess I'll suck it up and have the root canal done, if necessary. He's not sure yet. The dentist gave me antibiotics and scheduled me to return to his office. He'll have to take the rest of the filling out, clean the hole out, and see how close it is to the nerve and how much of the tooth is left before he decides. But based on x-rays and what he's seen so far, he thinks I will need the root canal. Hmm....
I haven't thought about Mexico... but I will check into that. I don't have a passport. But I've been meaning to try to get one. And if it will be significantly less expensive... it might be worth it.
Thanks for your thoughtful reply, Kathy!

There are dentists here in Oaxaca who specialize in treating dental tourists: http://www.sealbeachdds.com
No prices on this site, tho.
Here's a site in Tijuana with prices:
http://www.dentistsmexico.com/pricesmx.htm
So around 100 bucks for a root canal and $200 for a porcelain crown.

Yeah, that's a great idea. Maybe you could go to see Smith and Lady and learn
some more Spanish. Check on getting a passport. Also I thought you were interested in the copy writing materials I have here. I guess teeth and dogs take
first priority. *SMILE*
