MySpace gives free speech (and Abe Lincoln) the finger

[I posted this on MySpace today - but am copying it here for those who don't do MySpace]

I post bulletins alerting my friends on MySpace whenever I've posted a new blog on my www.crisischronicles.com site.  Now the powers-that-be at MySpace are trying to further restrict free speech and discourage traffic to competing sites by blocking my links.

Here's a message I received from Tom after clicking on a link (to my Abraham Lincoln blog) that I posted in a MySpace bulletin.  It's purely coincidental, I'm sure, that my Lincoln blog was critical of George Bush while MySpace's owners have been public supporters of George Bush.  Curious....

I am neither a spammer, a phisher nor a purveyor of viruses.  I'm simply trying to compete with MySpace.  And that, apparently, makes me "naughty."  I also had to go in and completely re-do my new "blog index" this morning, after MySpace disabled the links in it without notice.

Here's what Tom "said" to me (and likely to others who've attempted to visit my site):

The link you are trying to visit has been disabled.

You have reached a link that is no longer in service.  That means the link was very naughty, and, much like head lice, had to be eliminated before it spread.

You may be asking yourself, "Hey, what was it about that link that got it in trouble?" An excellent question!  Usually, it's one of the following reasons:

-      The link was spam!  No one likes spammers, and we don't like their links.

-      You almost got phished!  There are people out there who want to steal your MySpace password.  They want to log in as you and send spam, harass your friends, change your profile, and generally run amok.  Phishing pages are usually designed to look like MySpace to trick you.  Other sites may also ask for your MySpace login information to customize your profile, insert videos or slide shows, track visitors, or any number of other things.  Don't make it easy for them.  ONLY USE YOUR MYSPACE LOGIN INFO ON WWW.MYSPACE.COM!!

-      Viruses are not fun!  Neither is adware, spyware, or malware.  We cut the links to places that are known sources of infection.

If you really did want to check out some spam, viruses, or phishing pages, we're really sorry to have interrupted.  We're sure you can find it elsewhere.  There's plenty on the Internet.

MySpace wants you to think its competitors' sites are dangerous, so you'll be less likely to visit them.  Please don't fall for it.  Heck, you're probably more likely to pick up a virus or phisher on MySpace than you are on www.crisischronicles.com.  Please support your independent bloggers - not necessarily just my site.  Support the independent bloggers you like, whoever they may be.  And don't allow the corporate bullies to win.

Peace and love,
John, a.k.a. Jesus Crisis

P.S.  If you have any comments, please leave them on my website - you'll find links to my e-mail, my guestbook, and my blog there.  Feel free to contact me on any of those three.  I will probably not check my MySpace messages much anymore.

LOL....  Remember... the Chinese character for "crisis" is said to be made up of two characters - the one for "danger" and the one for "opportunity."  I'm just focusing on the opportunity.  the biggest danger, the threat of having MySpace account deleted, has actually been a blessing in disguise.

Boy JC... do they have your number or what? It sounds like they (the powers that be) are trying as hard as they can to keep you from expressing yourself. Maybe you are more "dangerous" than you think... writing about Byron, Lao Tzu, Hillary... supporting subversive ideas like "pimp my blog" and free speech....
Well I for one am not intimidated.... so I will be around.. leaving my own comments and reading your blogs, etc...

I love your blogs. Hope you finallly write one for Lucky and Lady... I'd love to know what they have to say about all this...

      Thank you very much, Chris!

LOL... I began working on that blog again last week... but it seems like something else always comes up.  I now have about seven tags to which I haven't responded since December - first by S*U*S*A*N, last by Shyloh, in between Darth Tater - and including a few people who simply said in their blogs, "If you read this, consider yourself tagged."  And of course you tagged my Lucky and Lady.  I'm trying to come up with a clever way to respond to them all at once... lol.

And in the meantime I leave you with one of my favorite graphics:

      Hahaha!
