Shaving Her Head for Cancer Research

I saw this on my friend TPO's MySpace blog today and, since I've had some very dear friends and family members struggle with cancer, it really resonated with me.  It does my heart good to see a young person out there not only caring but also doing something about it!

(Did I just say "young person"?  Now I know I'm getting old.  LOL).

Please show
Sa your support as she sacrifices her hair to raise funds to battle childhood cancer.  Thanks!

The following is copied from
TPO's blog with his permission:

Sa will be shaving her head in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment. As many of you know, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease in the United States. She will also be donating her hair to Locks of Love. She has until March 14th 2008 to raise her goal of $5000.00. As of February 21, 2008, she has raised $2,215.00.

I ask you all to please make a donation on her behalf to support childhood cancer research so that these children might have the opportunity to live a better and longer life in the future. It doesn't matter if it is only a dollar, every little bit counts.

I think this is a great thing she is doing and if I had a head of hair like her, I would find it very difficult to part ways with it.
See for yourself:

She needs a lot of moral support right now because like she said in her blog, "Women love their hair!"

Click here to make a donation if you can afford it. Also, even if you can't make a donation, stop by Sa's blog if you have a moment and leave her a comment or at least some kudos

Please feel free to repost this in your blog if you feel so inclined and help spread the word.

Peace, love and all that other good stuff,
TPO

Not sure if you know this or not. Your brother had donated his hair in the past for a cause like this.

locks of love is a wonderful thing. there's also a place where you can donate hair for adult wigs too:

kurt did this when he had waist length hair cut off several months ago, in honor of my cousin mary who had breast cancer at 35 and my aunt agnes, whose breast cancer keeps recurring..

thank you for getting to word out to others.

Thank you for sharing this, Meribeth.  And I applaud Kurt, too.  Wish I had known of something like this when I had my very long hair cut off in 1990....
      Namaste....

oooo, just looking over the st. baldrick's site. how very tempting. i'm always saying i want to get my head shaved, this would be a reason to do it instead of just being curious about it.

When I first came home, my family and I always used the euphemism "France" for prison to save me embarrassment.  (Crap!  I could have saved that for my next "tagged" blog.)  Bon soir!

That's very cool. Two of my friends did the same - donating their locks - a lot of people don't know about that charity. J.

Thank you, Jane.  I didn't know about it until today.  Then I found out that my brother had done it long ago... apparently when I was in prison.  My hats off to those who make the sacrifice.  And I think there are a lot more people who'd donate if they knew about such organizations.  Think of all the haircuts peope get in America... wow!

I wonder if Brittney Spears donated her
locks to cancer research. That would make headlines, wouldn't it? Kudos to Sa for
this and to JC for letting us know about donating. I intend to do this for her.

i just tried to donate $25 to this cause.
The form I filled out online when previewed was listing my donation as $2,500.00 and I kept correcting this. So I have had to write to them asking to check to see if the donation is $25.00.
^&%$#*( Just another frustration. At least I tried!! Now what?
