children puppies friends rock

Last weekend was quite eventful - and filled with some fantastigroovy experiences.

Four of our grandchildren spent most of it with us.  We picked them up Thursday afternoon in Columbus and returned them to their much closer new home Sunday morning.  Since all of them are aged six and under, they can consume every ounce of our attention and energy.  But the joy and love their presence brings into our home make it all worthwhile.

We also (finally) found good homes for Lucky's and Lady's last two puppies - one of them with our grandchildren.  And with no more puppy yelping at 3 a.m., I've gotten my best two nights of sleep since I don't know when.

Finally, Geri, Elena and I had the honor and pleasure of finally meeting our awesome MySpace friend Chris, a.k.a. Rune Warrior, in person.  The four of us spent much of Sunday at Cleveland's very cool Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum (incredibly, our first visit ever) and had supper together at Oberlin's eclectic and excellent Weia Teia restaurant.

Here are a few photos I took this weekend.

Unfortunately, photography was not permitted in the museum.  If you want to take a glimpse inside, you'll visit the Rock Hall's official website at http://www.rockhall.com - or better yet, come to Cleveland.

Highlights for me included Janis Joplin's groovy psychedelic Porsche (why did I expect her to drive a Mercedes Benz?), the actual bass guitar Paul Simonon destroyed on the cover of the Clash's London Calling, and a spectacular Doors exhibit that filled level 6.

But the coolest part of my weekend was having the opportunity to spend it with some very special people.

Thank you!

in cleveland 29 years, i went to the rock hall once. i was amazed at how cheap and tacky some of the great costumes were up close, at how high the platform shoes were for sly & the family stone. saw a great b&w rock documentary too

I agree about the costumes - was especially surprised how tiny the outfits seemed for "larger than life" figures like Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon.  "And though the clothes were rather small, they surely wore them all.  Now we know how many clothes it takes to fill the Rock and Roll hall."

Unfortunately, since we went on Sunday, we didn't have time to watch most of many of the seemingly cool video documentaries showing.  Will have to go back....

Great googly moogly, I think you've gotten to the heart of the matter.
I thought that was a Mercedes convertible Kris drove at the end of A Star is Born - but now that I'm watching the video, I don't think it is (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3t_FcRCZu4).  He must have wrecked the Mercedes before they filmed the movie.

I love it too - although I admit I like the duet version (Barbra and Kris) which appears on the soundtrack album even better than the Barbra solo version in this video.  Can't find a video of it, however....

I loved the photos and I'm glad that you had a good weekend. You certainly needed to have some happy time with your loved ones. The puppies are very cute, but those children are gorgeous! What a bunch of cuties. BTW my favorite pic was the one of Geri, Chris and Elena in front of the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. I think we need to add talented photographer to your list of accomplishments.

      Thanks, Tara!  You're too kind.

It was nice to have some happy moments - there sometimes seem to be far too few of those in the world.  Nice, too, to spy some beauty in an otherwise somewhat ugly week or two....
