Coldplay meet Brian Eno (with their new "Violet Hill" video)
The official release of Coldplay's new (fourth) disc, Viva La Vida, is still about a week away - and I've been excitedly awaiting it since learning last year that one of my artistic patron saints, Brian Eno, is its producer.
I finally got to hear the disc today! You, too, can listen to the whole thing before it's available in stores by following this link: http://www.iheartmusic.com/cc-common/ondemand/player.html?apid=4261&mid=184425
I was also fortunate enough to find a video of Coldplay's new single from Viva La Vida, "Violet Hill," on You Tube. Here it is:
I've listened to Coldplay's three previous studio albums dozens of times.
And they're all available at low prices from my Amazon music store:

At least a dozen of the records Brian Eno has produced for himself and other artists would make it onto a list of my 100 favorite discs of all time. Here are just eight of those, also available from my Amazon store.

When I saw the topic for the new blog was Coldplay, I had to take a look. I love Coldplay! They had this feel that reminds me of, dare I even say it...Pink Floyd...*gasp*...Blasphemy! But, seriously. There's this edgy mellowness that reminds me of a more modern PF...and perhaps a bit of U2 thrown in, to kick in the mix. Just the vibe I get from them... But I totally dig them! Thanks for sharing!
And you know I must dig Coldplay. This post might be the longest comment I've ever posted, for one of your blogs.LOL

LOL... thanks, Sasha! Glad you dig it....
I never heard a Coldplay song until I came home from prison (although I had read about them). The first time I did hear one, my first thought was "Is this a new song by U2?" That's high praise, when you consider that U2 is one of my all-time favorite bands. I'm not positive which song it was now - but I think it might be "The Scientist," which could be my favorite Coldplay song. The vocal always strikes me as Bono-esque:

I somehow have never seen that video, until today. It totally blew me away! Of all the songs, on the new disc, Yes hits me. Wasn't crazy about the fact that it's paired up with Cinese Sleep Chant, though. So, of course I made a video, since there are none, for it. And, of course, I had to edit the file, to cut Chinese Sleep Chant out of it, first. I can be a touch picky, that way.
*crossing my fingers that this works*

Very cool, Sasha! Thanks!
As you see, I went ahead and embedded your video in your comment.
I might even like that song better than "Violet Hill."

Thanks, John. I'm still blown away by the video the "The Scientist." Wow. Now, I think I'm going to go back and do a "real" video for "Yes."

Ha ha!! I just ordered Viva la Vida. It is my motto today so I'll wait until it comes and then take my portable outdoor speakers out on the deck and listen to it while the birds sing. Remember I already bought Apollo by Brian Eno. Why don't you mention this one also? I've been working my butt off to get things planted and got a new pump for the pond that Tom Shurr put in yesterday. The old one was out of warranty and it died. We both were pissed but he got a better one from a new company. So much to do around here but I'm managing to do almost everything myself. Come on over sometime and will give you lunch with music outside. My neighbors don't play loud music like yours do so it is much more peaceful around here than your place. The waterfall makes it sound like the Alhambra. Well I'm off to run errands and pay the Oberlin Inn the last
bill for Spectrum. I am no longer treasurer for next year, Thank Goddess.
I would like to talk to you sometime.
I need some more recommendations for CDs from Amazon. Smile, be good and don't forget me.

Here are my favorite Eno albums besides Apollo and Another Green World:
Enjoy the beautiful day!
Here's another favorite (and earler) Coldplay song, entitled "Yellow":

Love.... Coldplay! One of my favorite groups... And I just listened to the single of Violet Hill on I-Tunes last night...along with a few of the other new tracks soon to be released. Didn't realize they had a music video posted already. So thanks for posting this.
I've already made a nuisance of myself at FYI asking about the release date for the CD... so I wait with baited breath...
Thanks...

You're welcome! And thanks, Chris!
In a way, I liked the song better without the video at first. But the more I watch it, the more it grows on me.
It's neat to see who's liked Coldplay and who hasn't much. Usually when I hear one of their discs for the first time, I'm a litlle disappointed - but then I listen to it a couple more times and get addicted. They grow on me... kinda like the new video.

I didn't like them that much when I first listened to them either. They do tend grow on you the more you listen to them... Their last album I particularly liked so am looking forward to the new one .. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

true confession time... i've never much cared for coldplay before i listened to most of the link you posted. they usually made me feel a bit sleepy, sort of like hanging around in a room with a wood burning stove for too long does.
i'm groovin' on "lost". haven't been able to listen to the whole thing yet though and hope to remedy that this evening.
violet hill? heh. it's great.

I'm listening to "Lost" now. Dig it... "Just because I'm losing, doesn't mean I'm lost." Funny that in prison, especially the last several years, and for the the first months after my release, I might have said it the other way around: "Just because I'm lost, doesn't mean I'm losing"....
I know what you mean about the sleepy feeling. Their last album, X&Y, did not grab me at all the first time I heard it. I didn't think it had any great songs like "The Scientist," and I was a bit disapppointed. But after a few listenings, I began to love it, to really feel almost every song quite deeply. After about a hundred listenings, I sickened myself on a lot of it. But after about a year's break from it, I can listen to it with more balance again. Strange how things evolve....
