Two Bits of Good News

First:  The Cleveland Poetics blog has added several new regular contributors, and I'm privileged to be one of them.  My first post there was rather short, just a way for me to dip my toes in the waters, so to speak.  Be on the lookout for when I dive in at http://clevelandpoetics.blogspot.com/.

Second:  My poem I Hear Change has been selected for publication in the 2009 Hessler Street Fair Anthology.  I feel incredibly honored and happy to be included with so many fine poets from this region.  Here's a message Joshua Gage posted on the Cleveland Poetics Yahoo list serve about it:

The Hessler Street Fair Poetry Anthology is on it's way!

The reading for this year's contest will be held on the evening of Wednesday, May 13 - 7pm at Mac's Backs Paperbacks.  [Please see comments below for updated time and place.]  About 20 minutes after all poets have read, the winners will be announced and prizes will be handed out.

Congrats on both counts.... I'll be looking forward to your posts over at Cleveland Poetics.. along with some of the others.

So far I've been a rather helter-skelter reader of their blog.. but am looking forward to the fresh blood they've brought in and the new posts to look forward to. So will try to be more regular reader from here on in.

Congrats on the poem being selected as well... hope you win... Always like if it is someone I know.

I actually realized I have a copy of it sitting in the "lucky bowl" on my desk.. special found objects I keep there.. but it didn't have the name on it just the poem... a finding from the pinata project... so didn't recognize it by the name because a name wasn't used with it there.

Here's some updated info on the Wednesday reading and subsequent Street Fair - lifted from a new posting by Suzanne DeGaetano of Mac's Back's:

      Hi all,

The Hessler Street poetry contest reading will be Wednesday, May 13th at 7
p.m. We will be doing this under the arch in front of the Coventry Village
Library at the corner of Coventry and Euclid Heights Blvd, just a short walk
from Mac's Backs. If it's rainy or cold we will do the reading at Mac's. If
you have time, come down to Mac's and bring a folding chair down the street
or bring your own. Please arrive by 6:45 for check-in.

The Hessler Street poetry book put together by Josh Gage (thanks, Josh!!)
from all the submissions will be available. If you have contributed to the
book you can read your poem and be considered for one of three cash
      prizes----1st place--100.00, 2nd place---50.00, 3rd place---25.00. If you
are one of these winners you will read your poem on stage at the Hessler
      Street Fair
on Sunday, May 17th at 11 a.m. This is also broadcast by
WRUW--91.1 F.M. If you are a winner you must be available to read at that
      time.

Mary Weems, Gail Bellamy (past and present Cleveland Heights Poet Laureates)
and Judith Mansour from the LIT will be the judges.

The Hessler Street Fair takes place Saturday and Sunday, May 16th and May
17th from 11 a.m. to dusk. There will be an open mic poetry reading at the
Barking Spider Tavern from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday followed by Ray McNiece and
      Tongue and Groove.

The Hessler Street Fair has always been one of my favorite events of the year, and last year was no exception! I've always enjoyed the fantastic readings at Mac's for the Anthology, too. It will be exciting to hear all the poets read their works there-- and I look forward to hearing you, JC! Congrats on having your "I Hear Change" accepted! (And good luck in the competition!!!)

Thanks, Dianne!  And good luck to you, too.  As you know, the very first poetry reading I ever attended was at the Barking Spider during last year's Hessler Street Fair - and that was the first time you and I heard each other read.  So in a way you could say this is Lix and Kix' first anniversary... lol.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but you're right! Happy Anniversary, Mr. Lix! We'll have to make note of that at the May 19 Lix and Kix show.
