Mark This!

I was pleased to attend a very cool reading last night at Mac's Backs Books on Coventry.  While there, I picked up a copy of the Hessler Street Fair 2009 Poetry Anthology, which includes my I Hear Change.  We contributors got to read to a packed house before finding out who won the corresponding contest.  I'd like to congratulate dan smith (who likes spelling his name sans capitals) for winning 1st Place - as well as Geoffrey Landis (2nd place), J.E. Stanley and Jill Riga (tied for 3rd), and all the fine poets who read and are included in the anthology.   I will post photos in a Facebook album as soon as I have time.  Earlier today, I wrote a blog about the event on ClevelandPoetics: http://clevelandpoetics.blogspot.com/2009/05/congratulations-to-hessler-street-fair.html.

While at Mac's Backs, I was also happy to see they had Le Pink-Elephant Press' 2nd annual bookmark series available - particularly because my "Mark This" is one of 12 poems by 12 poets featured on the bookmarks.  You can stop by the store and pick 'em up for free while supplies last.  Here's a photo of my mark from both sides:

Thanks for reading!
Peace and poetry,
John

Thanks, Joy!  I added the video of dan smith reading his poem to the Crisis Chronicles Online Library today as well.  More highlights - from that night and from last weekend's Tres Versing the Panda festival - will be coming to then Library soon.

What a great idea, bookmark poems! I also need one to mark the place where I didn't quite finish reading Shakespeare's sonnets.

The rest of the sonnets will be coming soon to an online library near you!  But in the meantime, I can send you a bookmark.  Or you can get a whole set by emailing pinkelephantpress@gmail.com.  Other poets in the series include Cheryl Townsend, Andrew Lundwall, Jen Pezzo, Dianne Borsenik, Alethia Drehmer, Carol Novack....  They're all listed on the bookmark, but I'm not sure how easy it is to read in the photograph.

    hi john:

sorry, i didn't get more of a chance to talk to you at Mac's. i was in shock! not used to winning much of anything, let alone a poetry contest. i would have told you that i liked your I Hear Change poem and that i thought you and everyone else gave excellent readings of their poems. i might also have mentioned that i will be sending you the levy poem we talked about at Mac's (when was that, last saturday?) for your
magazine. i will try to get that together next week.

    best regards,
    dan smith

ps - i have a problem with the judging when the editor of the book is also a judge and 2 of his closest friends win prizes.
