Maddow vs. Obama - to fuck or not to fuck the Constitution & rule of law?
I've been an enthusiastic fan of President Barack Obama (as well as Rachel Maddow). However, to say the information in the following video disturbs me would be an understatement.
What's your opinion? Our new President apparently uses the "War on Terror" as a rationale to indefinitely imprison folks who have not had a day in court or been convicted of a crime. Remember we're also allegedly at "War on Drugs" - so if "War" gives you permission to preemptively incarcerate folks, can we also lock up anyone who might in the future take a prescription pill without a prescription — or smoke a joint? And anyway, doesn't the Consitution say that only Congress can declare war? Has Congress ever issued a declaration of war against "Terror"? And even if it has or had issued one, would that give us authority to indefinitely detain people who might at some point commit criminal acts? Please watch this video and then share your thoughts below.

I've become severely disenchanted with Obama. I have come to see him & the Democrats as opportunists who use the progressive banner to lure voters in. Their agenda differs little from the Republicans'.
The new health care bill would _mandate_ that individuals buy insurance with penalties for non-payment. Can't find any info online about how much this would cost poor people.
The Dems & Obama are not scaling back the military; they're growing it.
They failed to put in more regulations to prevent a future banking mess.
The tone is less scary than when Bush was in office, but the net effect seems the same.

We have to remember who put them there (Guatanamo)in the first place....Why they were placed there and where do they go from there. Its not as easy as any one of us couch-quarterbacks think is the right thing to do. We don't have all the info or top secret reports at our disposal. Obama is only in office for a few months...has to fix the mess that the previous administration has left and decipher all the info streaming onto his desk. He does deserve a little more time to to decode, debunk, demystify and make sense of all of it before making any rash decisions. But at same time we as citizens need to be vigilent and listen carefully to what is being said.
As they say "Indifference is dangerous".

Well.. I think being a politician or having to be one by profession is the worst possible fate for anyone. At best a highly coveted position throughout history and also the most vilified.
I assume it is one of the hardest jobs in the world... evidence of how much people age once they are in office.
I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy...
Saying all that... there have been leaders throughout history who have manages to wear it reasonably well.. so it is possible to do a good job.
I'm not so sure what to think about Obama sometimes... I think on the whole his intentions are good... but he seems to frequently be dropping the ball on things...
I'm hoping he will still come in time to silence the neigh (sic) sayers...
*sigh*

I belong to the ACLU. I am sure they are actively pursuing this and I expect a petition soon in my e-mail. The most important thing in this country is our civil rights and our constitution. No politician can trample on our rights to a fair justice system for everyone.

Preemptive incarceration.
Didn't this happen once before in Germany?
As I recall once they agreed on one class of criminal they then moved on to the next...and the next...until there was no room in the prisons...then they began to solve their economic crisis in gas chambers and graves.
The reporter called him a poet. Pretty words do not necessarly make a great poem. From the moment that I saw that Mr. Obama voted with the former administration to put and keep our nation in debt so that we can "recover". I began to doubt. The positive sounding speech, the self sureness, the historic break through of his color, the glory that surrounds him should perhaps become a warning now for us to awaken from a dream and look beyond the matrix. The only thing that stands in the way are a few laws and the constitution. If we allow a weakening of the supreme court that too is no barrier to anarchy...the truest form of self liberty. From chaos to king.
Our government then, (previous administration) and now (current administration) Not much real change that will help my grandchildren...No real peace, wealth is a paper chase, now this!
No gold basis for our money-It is only paper, faith and debt. ( wait! faith...isn't that religion??? )
Loss of rights - seems this thinking is broadening.
Fear of the END - unscientific global warming.
Claims that "we" have the answer-then tells us what that answer is.
Rewrites the law if it does not suit the situation.
Takes orders and directions from a World Organization.
We want change that is good for our futures and those of our children, not that of dictator/king. So far the guillotine is hanging just over our heads.
Is this the sweet poetic sound of it's descent?
John Adams:
There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.

I voted for Obama but this doesn't please me. Fact is, it makes me angry. I shouldn't say any more or I'll get arrested for something I might do in a possible future timeline.
