To sleep, perchance to dream

[from my journal]

23 July 2009

You can't awaken without first sleeping.

24 July 2009

I feel the need to stop trying to write poetry
Instead start trying to see the poetry
In what I see as the prose all around me

[not from my journal]

24 July 2009

I've not had a cup of coffee since Tuesday morning.

journaling regularly is a gold mine for me... if you haven't been lately... maybe you should more regularly.
it's like leaving a trickle running .. just a little bit of flow...
I find I become more observant when I journal each day...

I know you used to when you were in prison.. maybe blogging everyday might help too. even if it is short. like tonight's..

That's my philosophy - open my eyes, my ears, listen to my thoughts, try to write what I hear and see - pluck cherries from reality and mind

Gurdjieff says we're all asleep and must wake up. he also says we're born with no soul and must wake up to create one.

on a more mundane mode, you can't wake up without coffee ! ! !

I try to explain this to me friends; to write poetry, you need to view the world through the poet's lens of expression.

I can relate. I try too hard to write. Sometimes it is better to let the poem write itself.

Still, if something bops you on the head, you have to go with it. It's fun.

I went to a poetry workshop in April given by Michele Cooper. She had us write down one sentence; an unresolved conflict in our life. We then had to describe the conflict in a few minutes in prose. The next step was to translate the prose into a list of images and then use those images to write a poem. She liked concrete images...I tend toward abstract. I think it works either way. All of that just to say that I think you are on the "write" track

actually this morning on reading this I think allowing yourself to "feel" it might also be a thought... not just see it.

Often there is a lot packed in there inside that I am afraid to "look" at or to feel... or even approach.. because if I did I might feel I have to "do" something about it.
When just allowing myself to just be with it allows it to unpack itself ...
sorry.. it's something I'm starting to understand lately.. not an easy thing to do but very true....
