Starting Today with A

Starting today, for 26 days we will be going from A to Z in the Crisis Chronicles Online Library.  This morning I posted Conrad Aiken's Palimpsest: A Deceitful Portrait — a poem that wowed me as soon as I awoke and decided to post something from the Aiken book I borrowed last week.  I finally opened the volume and there it was at the beginning — almost skipped it because it was so long, then decided to read it anyway.  I'm glad I did.  Too bad I waited till age 42 to discover Aiken's work....  But perhaps I discovered it at the right time.

Other A authors already in the Online Library include Dante Alighieri, Elizabeth Alexander, Kim Addonizio, Steve Abbott, Sherwood Anderson, Nin AndrewsMaya Angelou, Aristotle, Matthew Arnold, and Marcus Aurelius.  Kim's given me permission to include more of her poems, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.  And I've very much wanted to add something by Guillaume Apollinaire, whose Alcools I consider one of the greatest books of all time, but I have yet to find a satisfactory English translation that either (1) is in the public domain, or (2) I can get permission to use.

Anyway, fucking A!  Enjoy....

I read a lot more poetry than I ordinarily would because of your online library. It's so convenient to click over from facebook and I'm curious to see what you have posted there. I wish more people discussed your installments there. I would be very interested in people's thoughts.

Thanks, Tara!  It seems like discussions happened more frequently when I only posted one item a day in the library.  Now some folks might be getting overloaded.  They might have time to read (my "views" are higher than ever), but not to respond, because I'm posting so much.  Once I've gotten more of the "gaps" in the collection filled in, I plan to get back to posting only one or two items a day.
