Poetry for Good (recommended blog)
T.M. Göttl posted a good, thought-provoking blog on the Cleveland Poetics site last night. I left a lengthy response there — which I'll count as my own blog for today. I encourage you to check it out and share your own thoughts. Click here: http://clevelandpoetics.blogspot.com/2009/10/if-tree-falls-in-woods-and-no-ones.html.

Some poetry is didactic, other poetry is universally understood and yet some is just the thoughts of a given moment or experience in a poet's life. But the highest appreciation comes from being a poet yourself and realizing what you write may be just for yourself if not published. Poetic language is different than the ordinary dialogues we have with each other. Dialogue is mostly found in prose, like novels or
plays. We often quote other's poetic lines, usually from the classics or well-known "dead" poets. Or we remember the lyrics of songs and poetry set to music and these are usually quite unforgettable. Just a couple of comments as I'm thinking of poetry, not as a critic, but as a lover of words.

i don't understand why so many folk keep trying to say what something is or isn't - especially art and poetry. just because it is one thing to that person does not mean it must be seen that way by another. as far as i'm concerned, it's "All Of The Above".
no on sees, hears, thinks, does the same way as another. what works for you is fine as long as it does not hurt or impose upon another.
art is big. art is small. art is important. art is useless. art is public. art is private. art is universal. art is individual.
people who say it is one thing are like the 4 blind men describing different aspects of the elephant. none are correct, yet all are right.
