President Obama at My House in Elyria on 1/22/2010
First sitting U.S. President since Truman to visit Lorain County — first ever to eat at Smitty's or drive past our home on Cleveland Street. I took video with my right hand and snapped this photo with my left yesterday.

Neat! I wonder why he went to Lorain?

He visited a couple of factories in my neighborhood (Riddell and EMC Machining) and checked out the college's touted new green technology program. But I suspect he had other motives as well....

gosh.... that did go right in front of your house didn't it. What a treat.
Curious why they took the route they did. I realize the College is up on Abbe Rd. but you wonder why they didn't go by way of the freeway. Where they en route from another event... just curious.
My only such experience was last year being sidelined by one of his motorcades when he was in town. But it was over before I realized it was him.

The first time he went by I was too slow and missed catching him on film. The one factory he visited is located on a side street past Convenient. But I knew he'd have to come back by our house to get to the college (and that he probably wouldn't take a different route to get there there since the police were keeping Cleveland Street devoid of all traffic except security) - so stood outside, camera in hand for a couple of hours till my fingers were a bit numb.

Verrrrry nice video, John! What a cool thing; you had the best seat in town. And the safest one, haha, with all those cops around. Weather was decent, too, for sitting outside and waiting. Thanks so much for taking and sharing this footage. Wish I could have scored a ticket and heard him speak while he was in Ohio.

'Twoulda been nice! Maybe he'll come back when he's campaigning for re-election. Or maybe, that's part of what he's already doing.

Thanks! I watched this on CNBC but didn't realize the whole thing was available on You Tube. He did a lot of ad-libbing, and I like most of what he said - but found it amusing that he called college President Roy Church "Ray."
