Miltner and Burroughs kick off Avon Lake series 1/20/2011
I'm thrilled to be reading with Robert Miltner at the first session of our new Avon Lake Public Library poetry series. Since only one person besides myself has confirmed attendance at our Facebook event page — and because the poster I created is one of my better ones and I want to show it off — here goes:

Avon Lake Public Library, 32649 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, Ohio — alpl.org — 440-933-8128
The Avon Lake Public Library and Poets of Lorain County are pleased to kick off a new poetry series that will take place the third Thursday of each month from January through May 2011. Our featured poets for January 20th will be Robert Miltner (who grew up in Avon Lake) and John Burroughs. The evening will begin with an open mic where all comers are invited to share their work.
Robert Miltner teaches creative writing at Kent State University Stark and is on the poetry faculty of the Northeast Ohio MFA in Creative Writing program. Miltner edits The Raymond Carver Review. His collection of prose poems, Hotel Utopia, was selected by Tim Seibles as the winner of the New Rivers Press book prize and published by the Minnesota State University Moorhead. Miltner is the author of numerous poetry chapbooks and broadsides. His stories have appeared in Istanbul Literary Review, Perigee, Apple Valley Review, Ophelia Street, Hamilton Stone Review, Storyglossia and Christmas Stories from Ohio. He is currently working on a novel, The Tempest.
John Burroughs, aka Jesus Crisis, hails from Elyria. His blog was ranked number 1 on MySpace in 2007 before Facebook engulfed him. Burroughs' poetry chapbooks include Bloggerel, Identity Crises (with Doug Manson and Bree) and 6/9: Improvisations in Dependence. Ten of his musical stageplays were commissioned by the State of Ohio and performed by prisoners as community service. Founder of PoetryElyria and the Crisis Chronicles Online Library, John co-hosts the monthly Lix & Kix Poetry Extravaganza at Bela Dubby in Lakewood and the annual Snoetry: A Winter Wordfest (February 2nd-8th 2011 at Jim's Coffeehouse in Elyria).
Other upcoming features include:
February 17th — Dianne Borsenik and Terry Provost
March 17th — Heather Ann Schmidt and Eric Anderson
April 21st — Lou Suarez and Susan Grimm
May 19th — Sammy Greenspan and Kazim Ali
