Mercy Less
Listening to Love
by the dash board reflection
of sunlight filtered
through my Buick wind shield
waiting for High
Me to emerge
from some medical office
affiliated with a hospital
in Oberlin
recently renamed
Mercy
Her real name
though perhaps more prosaic
is easy to figure
if you're halfway familiar
with mangled Spanish
But this is 2011
not 1966
Love has long
since disbanded
and I arrive home
to find a letter
from an attorney
representing the hospital
notifying us he's moved
the court for a default
judgment
Still ill
I call it despiadado
merciless in English
recall I forgot
my CD in the car
And she asks
Where's the Love?

Forgotten love and mercy are found on the CD and in poetry I once wrote.

Arthur Lee's Love?
Enjoyed the poem, the Mercy of the hospital.

Yes! I was listening to Love's Forever Changes album when I began writing the poem.
