A May Zing - and June, Too

Here's a list of poetry events I'm involved in during May and June 2011 — at least as it stands so far. There may be additions, as I've discussed reading in certain venues where the details and whether or not remain up in the air.  My plan is to share poetry in lots of groovy places before the end of June, then retire for a while.

Oberlin, Ohio — Meeko Israel Presents — The Slow Train Cafe
Thursday 4/28/2011 at 8 p.m. — I will be the featured poet during an open mic hosted by Meeko Israel at The Slow Train Cafe, 55 E. College Street Suite 3 in Oberlin, Ohio.

Youngstown, Ohio — Ward Bakery Open Studio Reading — Ward Bakery
Sunday 5/1/2011 from 12 to 5 p.m. —
I will be one of many poets reading during a multi-dimensional arts event held at historic Ward Bakery, 1024 Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio.  For a full list of participating poets and more information, click here.

Cleveland Heights, Ohio — Hessler Street Fair Competition — Mac's Backs
Wednesday 5/11/2011 at 7 pm — Contributors to the 2011 Hessler Street Fair Poetry Anthology (including me) will read poems at Mac's Backs Books, 1820 Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  An announcement of this year's Hessler Street Fair Poetry Competition winners will follow the reading.

Cleveland, Ohio — Peace Show fundraiser — St. Paul's Community Church
Saturday 5/14/2011 at 7 pm —
I will be one of many artists sharing work at St. Paul's Community Church, 4427 Franklin Boulevard in Cleveland, Ohio, to raise funds for Peace Show 2011.  More details forthcoming.

Lakewood, Ohio — Lix & Kix Poetry Extravaganza — Bela Dubby
Wednesday 5/18/2011 at 7 p.m. — The Lix and Kix Poetry Extravaganza presents featured poetry by Matthew Hupert (of New York City), Rose M. Smith (of Columbus), Michael Bernstein (Cleveland Heights) and Joey Pompignano
(Cleveland) at Bela Dubby Art Gallery & Beer Cafe, 13321 Madison Avenue in Lakewood. An open mic emceed by Dianne Borsenik and me will follow.

Avon Lake, Ohio — Poets of Lorain County — Avon Lake Public Library
Thursday 5/19/2011 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. — Poets of Lorain County present featured readings by poet/novelist Kazim Ali (of Oberlin) and poet/publisher Sammy Greenspan (of Cleveland Heights) at the Avon Lake Public Library, 32649 Electric Blvd. in Avon Lake.
  I'll emcee an open mic prior to the features.

Williamstown, West Virginia — Ohio River Reading — Williamstown Bridge
Monday 5/23/2011 at 3 pm — Dianne Borsenik and I will read poetry at the Williamstown Bridge that crosses the Ohio River between Williamstown, West Virginia and Marietta, Ohio.  Bring your own poems (or your favorite river poems) and join us at 3 in the park located at the corner of Front Street and Highland Avenue next to the bridge in Williamstown.  For more details click here.

Athens, Ohio — Poets South of I-70 — The Plains Public Library Branch
Monday 5/23/2011 at 7 pm — Poets South of I-70 will host featured poetry by Dianne Borsenik and me at the Athens County Public Library's The Plains branch, 14 S. Plains Road in The Plains, Ohio.

Wapakoneta, Ohio — Annual Special Event — Temple of Tolerance
Saturday 5/28/2011 at 6 pm in Wapakoneta, Ohio —
Ray McNiece, Dianne Borsenik and I will be featured poets during a special event at the Temple of Tolerance, 203 S. Wood Street in Wapakoneta.  This event will include an extended open mic.

Columbus, Ohio — Columbus Arts Festival — Ohio Magazine Word Is Art Stage
Saturday 6/4/2011 at a time TBA in Columbus, Ohio — I will be one of many featured poets at the 2011 Columbus Arts Festival. This 50th anniversary of this three-day festival will feature poetry at the Ohio Magazine Word Is Art Stage near the corner of Gay Street and Cleveland Avenue as well as thirty bands and work by hundreds of other artists.

Lakewood, Ohio — Lix & Kix Poetry Extravaganza — Bela Dubby
Wednesday 6/15/2011 at 7 p.m. — The Lix and Kix Poetry Extravaganza presents featured poetry by Chansonette Buck (of Berkeley, California) and George Bilgere (of Cleveland Heights), music by Mad Anthony (of Cincinnati, OH) and a unique amalgam of music and spoken word by Trenchcoat Manifesto (of Cleveland)
at Bela Dubby Art Gallery & Beer Cafe, 13321 Madison Avenue in Lakewood. An open mic will follow.  Dianne Borsenik and I will emcee.

Swanton, Ohio — Crossroads — Griffin's Hines Farm Blues Club
Saturday 6/25/2011 from 7 to 10 pm — Poets of Lorain County will take part in Crossroads: Where the Art of Poetry and Blues Meet, an event featuring poetry by Max Parthas and Tribal Raine, music by Billy Branch and his Sons of Blues, and much, much more.  For more information, click here.

      I pretty much gave up poetry from 1998 to 2008.

      Note that I just added at last minute Oberlin reading for April 28th. I'm gonna read as many cool places as possible before the end of June and then that's it for a while.
