New PoetryElyria May 12th at Scott M Duncan Photography

PoetryElyria returns May 12th at 7 p.m., hosted by Scott M Duncan Photography at 120 Middle Avenue — right on Ely Square — in downtown Elyria, Ohio.  Feel free to bring munchies and/or refreshments.  Read a poem of two at our open mic.  Then hear featured readings by two of Lorain County's most engaging poets: Eric Anderson and Abigail Carney.

Eric Anderson lives with his family in Elyria, Ohio. His poems and fiction have appeared in The Sun, Prairie Schooner, Whiskey Island and many other publications. A chapbook of his poetry, Confederate Season, was published in 2002 by Lorain County Community College and his novella Isn't That Just Like You? (winner of the inaugural Ruthanne Wiley Memorial Novella Contest) was published by Cleveland State University Press in 2007. In 2010, Eric won The Lit: Cleveland's Literary Center's Lantern Award for best poem.

Abigail Carney is eighteen years old and lives in Grafton, Ohio. This fall she happened upon the Cleveland poetry scene and has been writing, performing, and listening to poems with enthusiasm ever since. She is a member of the 2011 Rustbelt Cleveland Regional Slam Team and the 2011 Cleveland SlamU Brave New Voices Team. Her work has appeared in a Dragon Inc. chapbook and the Kenyon Young Writer's publication. She has written and directed two plays at Midview High School. In the fall Abigail will attend Yale University.
