There's a long story behind this one.  Here's the Readers Digest condensed version.

The first girl I ever kissed, Melissa (actually it was she who kissed me), wrote these lyrics down and presented them to me — I don't remember when it was — sometime around 1980 (I think I was 13). For several years I believed the words were an original poem by her, since we started exchanging poems all the time.  Actually, I might never have writtten (or liked) poetry if not for her.  She also loaned me King Crimson's Larks' Tongues In Aspic at the time, but I didn't really appreciate it because I was too busy listening to the other records she loaned me, like The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis and Gary Numan's Telekon, the subject of yesterday's blog.

Later, as a senior in high school, someone turned me on to King Crimson's new Three of a Perfect Pair cassette, which inspired me to seek out every other King Crimson record I could find.  Among these was their first, 1969's In the Court of the Crimson King, which my then girlfriend (and second "real" love) Laura got me for Christmas in 1984.   Listening to Crimson King, I was stunned when I heard Greg Lake singing what I had always believed was Melissa's first poem  to me in the song "I Talk to the Wind."
