I Want My MTV: "I'm a Sex Offender"
I haven't watched MTV since the early 1990s. But if we still had cable, I'd watch this.
These facts may not be mentioned during the program, but these young men are not only officially "ineligible" to use Facebook because of their status, they're also ineligible to particpate in programs funded by Department of Labor grants "to help former offenders gain career skills and rejoin community life." But Charles Manson and Mark David Chapman, when they're released, will be eligible.

You know how I feel about this non-sense...Makes me want to scream...HUGS! xo

When will our so-called justice system
ever stop punishing our young people when there is no crime committed? What indeed is a sex offense? This label is totally unjust and the punishment for offending is an egregious miscarriage of justice for everyone concerned who really cares for our civil and human rights in this country!!

Here is the email address for the Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis. talktosolis@dol.gov
I have written to request that she reconsider the exclusion of people who have been convicted of sex-related offenses from programs that will be considered for grants.

Fear has a way of steering public opinion that is unhelpful and sometimes cruel.
I have always felt that the concept of the Registry is unjust.... and when I see and hear this it just reinforces my belief.
Sadly, Michigan is going to be considering a law that will further the restrictions on sex offenders. Giving mothers power to refuse fathers who are guilty of or served time as sex offenders access to their children.. essentially curtailing their parental rights. I think this is wrong... but I'm afraid there is support for it. So it will probably pass. And often when it passes in one state other states follow...
... if I were in that kind of situation I would feel great despair.
