Cornering Mom

Mom on 29 May 2011

Long day at the hospital today.  Mom's been in since Tuesday the 12th. Friday she took a turn for the worst and had to be sent to ICU and put on a ventilator.  I bailed out on my scheduled Mad Sing You performance on the 20th and Columbus State Community College bookfair appearance today.  I've hesitated to say much about it here or on Facebook because (1) I've had little time to write (and taking care of her is a far bigger priority than writing), (2) things have been constantly changing, and (3) I wanted to respect her privacy.

Anyway, today Mom has turned an important corner.  By this evening, she was breathing on her own, though she's exhausted and they want to wait until morning before they try to take her completely off the respirator.  She's by no means all better, but she's on her way and I couldn't be more grateful.  I'm also very grateful for the kind wishes we've received.  Hopefully, tomorrow (Sunday) she'll be able to talk with us for the first time in nearly a week.  I wonder what she'll say.

If all continues to go well, I still plan to make it to my featured reading Monday at the Rumba Cafe in Columbus.  Maybe I'll see you there.  For details and/or directions,

This was really good to wake to this morning and read John. I'm glad to hear your Mom is doing better and improving and that there looks to be a little light at the end of this tunnel.

I hope that she will be able to make some steady improvement and soon be home... we have all been thinking of her... and you. Will still keep you both in my thoughts and prayers... I know she is not out of the woods yet...

sending some peace and healing in your direction...

If you are able to make it to Columbus I hope it goes well.
    best wishes.
